| LAUNCH028 - GREY DATURAS: Path Of Niners | View Details |
| Rocket Recordings are proud to announce the first european release from Australias Grey Daturas. Since their inception in 2001, Melbournes Grey Daturas have been hailed as one of the loudest and most uncompromising in their homeland. Over the course of their career, the trio, comprising of multi-instrumentalists Robert Mayson, Bonnie Mercer and Robert MacManus, have been furiously melding low-end drones, free-form rhythms and sludgy, psych riffs through complete improvisation. With a hardcore D.I.Y. work ethic, their years of self-promoting, touring and releasing of records has gained them global respect from an ever increasing fan base, and has seem them share the bill with the likes of ISIS, Sun O))), OM, Circle, Comets On Fire, Neurosis, Residual Echoes and many more leading bands in the psych-noise scene. Apart from their greatly-received debut album and numerous self-released titles, the band have also released highly acclaimed split albums with fellow noise pioneers Wolf Eyes and Yellow Swans and have future releases lined up with French doom band Monarch and fellow Rocketeers Mammatus. Originally a self-released CDR, Path Of Niners sees the band take their sound further into the stratosphere with over 40 mins of improvisational psych-noise and is a taster of what to expect from their second, official album which should hit the shops early next year. This latest version of Path Of Niners contains an unreleased track and will also soon be available as a limited vinyl pressing. The release of this album coincides with the bands first European tour which will see them take their unique shows throughout August and September. www.greydaturas.com www.myspace.com/greydaturas | |

| Debut release from the heavy pagan rock force that is Gonga. At first inspection the word ‘Sabbath’ comes to mind, but this anvil avalanche really digs deeper to find its own hell. "One of those albums one cant imagine being recorded with anything other than Orange or Green brand amplifiers, Gongas eponymous debut takes the classic stoner rock blueprint as set down by desert gods Kyuss... Believe it, brothers and sisters, the gargantuan, sub-Sabbath grind-riffs powering standout tracks like "Burnt Honey," "Fellow Man" and first single "Stratofortress," is as chilling as it is thrilling. But aside from reminding us just how much those old Seattle bands bowed down to Black Sabbath in the first place (hello, Soundgarden!), everything else about Gongas music positively screams classic stoner rock. Touching upon most of the genres popular devices at one time or another, the band intersperses occasional instrumentals ("Pocket Scientist," the doom-tastic "Octane Bud") and acoustic guitar snippets "Untitled No. 2" & "No. 3") with the energetic highway anthems cited above, as well as a few lengthy stoner jams sure to incite the sort of head-nodding that generally precedes spilling your bong-water everywhere." JULIAN COPE - Vinyl | |
| INV040 - JULIAN COPE : You Gotta Problem With Me : LTD VINYL LP | View Details |
| Julian Cope’s new album YOU GOTTA PROBLEM WITH ME (no question mark) is another protest album in the tradition of his previous releases PEGGY SUICIDE, JEHOVAHKILL, AUTOGEDDON, CITIZEN CAIN’D and DARK ORGASM. Unlike most records by Cope’s head-in-the-sand punk rock contemporaries (almost all of whom he believes to be shirking their primary rock’n’roll responsibility as cultural mouthpieces), YOU GOTTA PROBLEM WITH ME deals primarily with such currently controversial, nay taboo issues, as religion (our own and other peoples’), and the West’s latest wave of xenophobia and self-doubts brought on by a combination of the war in Iraq, the so-called 9/11 bombings and the EEC’s latest huge wave of migrants from former Communist countries. YOU GOTTA PROBLEM WITH ME also addresses all of Cope’s other long-term gripes: corporate greedand the destruction of Mother Earth, misogyny and homophobia, and our apparent inability to address such essential matters due to cultural ignorance and the glaring faults in our education system. Yes, Lenny Bruce and Bill Hicks are dead, but Cope’s still pissed off enough to fly the flag for all three! However, while the songs of YOU GOTTA PROBLEM WITH ME are even more lyrically hard-hitting than those on DARK ORGASM, musically this new record ploughs a far more traditional Copean furrow, returning the listener to insidiously melodic post-punk songs in the JEHOVAHKILL style, many sparsely orchestrated with Mellotron, wah-wah guitars, orchestral percussion and even lush harmonies. The dynamic, ultra-gloss gatefold sleeve has insights, hard-hitting information, and a very epic poem: all designed to shake us from our post-everything stasis. Strictly limited pressing - only 1000 worldwide. | |
