INV038 - ATAVIST II : Ruined (CD)

View Details
Divided into chapters, but works best as one long song (kinda akin to Corrupted’s “El Mundo Frio”), “II:Ruined” is a massive plunge through crawling and pounding vibes of distorted madness, bass-heavy frequencies, methodically played drums, and utterly painful virulent vocals, all filtered through pure unbridled atmosphere and ambience. A sonic scenario where every negative emotion conceived manifests into beyond epic proportions.
Featuring guest appearances from CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX founder Justin Greaves (ex-ELECTRIC WIZARD/IRON MONKEY), and UK alternative singer Rose Kemp, “II:Ruined” will definitely appeal to those who worship at the altar of such bands as those that Justin Greaves was formerly of, alongside acts like KHANATE, SUNN 0))), and CORRUPTED (in which Atavist could possibly be the heirs to said throne, or maybe the UK’s answer to Corrupted!) respectively.

ATAVIST / NADJA - CD

INV036 - ATAVIST / NADJA - 12012291920 / 1414101

View Details
12012291920 / 1414101 is the coming together of two distinct creative forces in the form of Atavist (UK) & Nadja (Canada) and represents an abstract detraction from both of the bands previous works.

The feel of the album is one of blissful escapism presented through harmonious audio manipulation, intricate melody and polarising heaviness. This release sees Atavist / Nadja placing the listener into an dreamlike environment throughout the albums two expansive tracks by using an innovative array of layered sounds, abstract guitar work, subsonic bass levels and delicate electronics to give a desolate, yet warm full length album.

12012291920 / 1414101 is not a split album, rather a collaborate effort between Atavist & Nadja with each artist bringing their own components to the whole.

Atavist is the sound of every conceivable negative emotion channelled through the medium of cranium- crushing doomed despair. Ungodly vocals are pitched against unholy foul sludge with bass levels tailored specifically for maximum bowel demolishing discomfort.

This is essential for fiends into: Corrupted, Khanate, Eyehategod, Grief etc.. Features Burning Witch wardrummer Jamie "Boggy" Sykes. Released in Europe via Invada records.

"Atavist are from sunny Manchester and their critically acclaimed debut album features 3 extended tracks of dark, grimacing, doom ridden metallic sludge. The first track on offer is cleverly titled ‘31:38’ ; a half hour droning jam, harnessing all the finest elements of drone-rock’s greats (The Melvins, Earth, Sunn o))), Boris etc) and injecting enough intelligence to put it next to even heavy post-rockers Pelican for scope and vision. In fact the album reminds me very much of Ocean’s debut record on Important not too long ago, large mutating compositions moving slowly (but surely) from place to place keeping the listening interesting but always deep, dark and heavy! A hugely satisfying listen, Atavist have the power, and they ain’t afraid to use it!"

"This is intense, brutal and raw anti-music. Utterly fantastic and recommended to anyone with a taste for the truely extreme"

BRAIN DONOR - CD

INV031 - BRAIN DONOR - DRAIN D BONER

View Details
Released as a handsome slipcase edition CD, the album showcases 5 tracks of abandoned sludge trudge. Showing typical restraint, the maker describes the record as “NON-LINEAR CUNTEDNESS”. While this is probably an overly harsh estimation of Draind Boner’s brutal mix of post punk style, No Wave and free proto-metal, the records truly a-tonal sonic attack will certainly cause some divided opinions among fans of the band. But if your idea of time well spent is listening to music which evokes the sound of overly-caffeined baby elephants slopping about in oily puddles, that have formed outside a former Soviet chemical factory, then this is the album for YOU.

Brain Donor was formed in July 1999 and played their first show at Londons Queen Elizabeth Hall in May 2000. Fronted by bass player/singer Julian Cope and guitarist Doggen, the most dramatic change in the sound comes, however, from new drummer Mr E, whose overtly confident and punctuating style of drumming echoes Sabbaths Bill Ward and Grand Funks Don Brewer. This has lent a far greater emphasis to the rhythm section, in places even adding elements of brutal stop/start skunk in the Jah Wobble period PILE tradition. Make no mistake, DRAIND BONER is not heavy metal, neither is it the fast unrestrained free garage rock weve come to expect from the band. Its new, its compelling and its the only current evidence that these moronS still exist, since their previous album LOVE, PEACE & FUCK and the double LP TOO FREUD TO ROCKNROLL, TOO JUNG TO DIE are both long since deleted.

INV035 - CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX : A Love Of Shared Disasters

View Details
Born from a blizzard of horned cats, Crippled Black Phoenix bring you a twisted cinematic experience, handcrafted by a mercenary crew of musical outsiders, giving depth and gravity to regal songs about love, loss, tragedy and redemption.

Back in 2004, the then Electric Wizard drummer Justin Greaves (also of Iron Monkey, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine) started recording songs and soundscapes hed had in his head for several years using primitive recording techniques. Encouraged by good friend (and Mogwai bassist) Dominic Aitchison those ideas would become the bones of Crippled Black Phoenix. Other great compadres followed, Panthiest members Andy Semmens and Kostas Panagiotou, Nial McGaughey of 3D House of Beef and, amongst others, solo folk songwriter Joe Volk, who also fronts critically acclaimed heavy rock band Gonga, all stepped up to bring a variety of influences and skills to complete the line-up.

The result is a collection of self penned endtime ballads, a dark hybrid that is the culmination of all the members’ eclectic influences. It is the first of a trilogy and deals with the timelessness of honesty and tragedies laid bare, featuring sordid tales from the pages of literary history combined with personal stories of contemporary loss and love.

Using a blend of modern amplified and Victorian era equipment, the band have produced a captivating, slow-burning sound that’s both archaic and modern at the same time.

The textured, triple-fold digipak sleeve features beautiful artwork from Bonnie Prince Billy sleeve artist Brendon Palmer Angell as well as a lyric booklet.
